Pickleball Olympics 2032

The World of Pickleball is on the brink of a historic event. The Pickleball Olympics dream may become a reality in 2032. Follow the Bros as they lay out the Road to the 2032 Pickleball Olympics.

As the Pickleball faithful count down to the day Pickleball makes its Olympic debut, all we can do is speculate when it will make its grand entrance on the world stage. There is a very real possibility that we could have a Pickleball Olympics in the next ten years. Let the Bros take you through the information we have assembled that paves a clear road to the Pickleball Olympics in 2032.

The Road to The Pickleball OIympics 2032

The Bros have been researching the Pickleball Olympics since early 2023. And we have uncovered some compelling information that tells us that 2032 is the year. Let’s take a look at the five greatest reasons that the Pickleball Olympics 2032 in Brisbane is 100% possible, and it’s not just a Pickleball pipe dream.

1. The Global Pickleball Federation has a 2032 Olympic Vision

The Global Pickleball Federation (GPF) was established in 2021 to lead and develop Pickleball on a Global scale. This organisation continues to accumulate member countries, as Pickleball expands across the world.

The GPF has a Vision to build a “unified, organized and integrated” International Pickleball organisation. All with one goal in mind, to have “Pickleball participating in the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane, Australia

There is plenty of internet speculation of when Pickleball will be in the Olympics. The 2028 Olympics is not an option anymore. And the 2032 games is the next available year. The GPF and all it’s Pickleball countries and organisations are all working towards the 2032 Olympics goal.

2. The GPF Goal is to be recognised as an International Federation by the IOC.

The GPF know that to achieve their Olympic Vision, they must be recognised as an International Federation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This is an IOC requirement for Pickleball to become an Olympic Sport.

The Global Pickleball Federation’s Goal is to gain IOC Recognition as an “International Sports Federation”

The GPF’s clearly states their goal is to gain IOC recognition as the “International Sports Federation” of Pickleball. And there are many initiatives in place to expand the reach of Pickleball. And to make it a globally recognised and universally enjoyed by all people. Some of these items were covered by the Bros in the Olympics news posts below. .

IOC recognition will bring us one step closer to the Pickleball Olympics. And we have a few things already in our favour that align with the GPF VISION and GOAL for Pickleball, the Olympic Agenda 2020 Charter.

3. The Agenda 2020 Olympic Charter Update

The original Olympic Charter made it difficult for any new sports to be included into an Olympic Games. It required that 74 countries and 4 continents play the sport for men, and 40 countries and three continents for women. Otherwise, the sport could not be included in an Olympic games.

The Olympic Charter was updated in 2014 with the introduction of “Olympic Agenda 2020”. This update gives the Organising committee of any Olympic Games the power to propose new sports to the IOC to be in the Olympics. This is documented in the Olympic Program Evolution.

Any hosting nation can now propose any sports. Japan 2020 was the first Olympics to do this, as we detailed in our “Is Pickleball an Olympics Sport” post. Pickleball can be included in any Olympic Games if the Organising Committee propose the sport to the IOC. And if the Sport is recognised as an International Federation, and they pass a few other selection criteria.

Break Dancing was added for Paris 2024, Flag football and Squash has been added for the Los Angeles 2028 games. The 2032 Brisbane Olympic games is the next possible year where Pickleball could be selected by the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee.

4. The Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee Links to Pickleball

The Board of the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee is made up of recent Olympic and Paralympic Athletes, with members of the Brisbane community and representatives from all levels of Government. Their job is to ensure the 2032 Brisbane Olympics is a success. We reported on this in early 2024, with a huge revelation about the Olympic Organising Committee and its links to Pickleball.

Pat Cook, five time Olympian joined the Pacific Pickleball (PPL) board. Pacific Pickleball has a relationship with Major League Pickleball (MLP) which has a partnership with Pickleball Australia. And she has an ownership position in the Gold Coast Glory, the PPL/MLP Team.

The press release for Nat Cook was largely ignored, but the Bros did pick up a juicy piece of information, and officially started their Pickleball Olympics speculation back in February 2024. Because of this information buried in the press release:

“Cook is also a Director of Brisbane 2032, Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, and holds a position on the World Olympians Association Board.”

Pat Cook is all in on Pickleball, AND she is also on the Brisbane 2032 organising Committee. The same Organising Committee that can propose new sports for the Olympic games. As you can see in the image below that spells it all out.

The Nat Cook Gold Coast Glory Announcement was made on Facebook

What is the likelihood that Pat Cook won’t be fighting for Pickleball to be in the Olympics? The GPF, via it’s Member country Australia and linked teams have a direct line to inside the Olympic Committee. This is a SLAM DINK and a HUGE advantage to help Pickleball achieve it’s 2032 Olympic Dream.

The Bros believe that Nat Cook is the key to get Pickleball into the 2032 Brisbane Olympic games. The image above makes a profound case for Pickleball in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. There is no guarantee, but it does display the people behind the scenes, trying to make it happen. And we welcome anything Nat can do to make our Olympic dreams come true.

5. The GPF are Working to Spread the Word on Pickleball

Behind the scenes, the GPF and member countries are working to spread the Pickleball word. Pickleball cannot be a niche sport played in some countries. It needs to be BIG. It has to be a global sport that is prestigious and enjoyed by many.

Let’s take a look at some recent Initiatives that are increasing Pickleballs global reach. And can only improve the chances of Pickleball being in the 2032 Olympic Games.

1. The Pickleball Minds Conference

The first Pickleball Minds conference was held in March 2024. Described as the “Davos of Pickleball”, Pickleball companies, confederations and players attended to talk “the business of Pickleball”. During the conference, the Global Pickleball Federation held a session to discuss the global growth of Pickleball. And a big focus point was Pickleball in Africa.

“The group discussed the future expansion of the sport in Africa, which is an important delegation when it eventually comes to getting the sport into the Olympic games.”

Interesting insight, as there are 54 countries in Africa and it is the second most populated continent after Asia. So it makes sense that Pickleball in Africa is important.

2. China and India are playing Pickleball

Pickleball is taking off in China and India. They are the two most populated countries in the World, with 1.8 billion people in both combined. And Pickleball is getting more popular in these two lucrative markets.

In India, Bollywood celebrities are growing the sport of Pickleball. And Global Pickleball tournaments are also being held in India. In China, Pickleball has officially landed with “Pickleball Together” campaigns. And various brands and influencers all rushing to back the sport. This is only the beginning, as Pickleball only becomes more popular.

3. Pickleball Progress on an Olympic Level.

Every organisation linked with the Global Pickleball Federation and it’s vision is out there, working to get Pickleball into the 2032 Olympic games.

For example, the Pickleball Australia Association (PAA) attended the Inaugural Step-Up conference in Fiji. The event, held in April 2024 was an opportunity to meet delegates from the Oceana National Olympic Committees (ONOC).

The PAA held a pickleball demonstration. And Olympic delegates were given the chance the play pickleball. The PAA is committed to drive this initiative from an Oceania level for Brisbane 2032.

“There is a lot of talk about if and when pickleball will become an Olympic Sport… A great deal of work has to be done to achieve this at the international level, but rest assured the PAA is helping to drive this at the Oceania level.”

This work isn’t a done and won scenario. Opportunities to showcase Pickleball to Olympic delegates is important. Organisations like the PAA are working hard to achieve our Olympic Pickleball dream.

4. Pickleball Goes Global in new World Series.

A New Global Pickleball tour with $20 million in prize money was launched in July 2024. Pickleball will go next level with the worlds biggest professional Pickleball tour.

This global tour will include an India tour, World tour and a China Open, all offering huge prize pools. This will bring Pickleball prize money to the level of the ATP tour prize money. And it will elevate Pickleball from niche sport to the mainstream. A real sport, with real financial backing and a worldwide audience.

All fantastic developments for the Pickleball Olympics cause.

The Stars Are Aligning for Pickleball

As you can see, the Pickleball world is ramping up. And every new player, every new country and global tournament moves us closer to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. It’s an exciting time for Pickleball fans and for the sport, it’s players and organisations,
